Artist Profile_Tucked away in her home studio in Fukuoka, artist Michiko Iwata finds a home for the remainders of our daily life in her assemblage artworks. She draws on the tradition of ready-made collage from artists like Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso to reimagine found materials into meticulously layered and crafted installations and miniature houses. Combining discarded kiribako boxes, printed materials and used stationary found in flea markets and on the streets, Iwata’s artwork questions the value we assume of things that age and wear, giving them new life while giving her audience a fresh perspective about the things we throw away. You can feel her nostalgia and unique worldview in her works.
